Kids, let's draw a dream home

Children from kindergarten through fifth grade are invited to enter the annual Draw Your Dream Home contest, sponsored by the Tampa Bay Builders Association in conjunction with the Parade of Homes, March 1-16. Deadline for entries is Feb. 4. The entry form can be downloaded at Winners receive U.S. savings bonds valued from $200 to $500.

Neighborly projects are WIMBY

Term to know: WIMBY, which stands for "Welcome in My Back Yard" ... as opposed to NIMBY ("Never in My Back Yard"). In building and development terms WIMBY refers to projects embraced by the neighbors because they eliminate blighted buildings, toxic soil, or hazards that degrade the community.

Homebuilder names new CEO

Sheryl Palmer has been named chief executive of Taylor Morrison, the Bradenton homebuilder created out of the merger of Taylor Woodrow and Morrison Homes. Palmer was formerly executive vice president for the western region of Morrison Homes and earlier worked for Pulte Homes. She will oversee Taylor Morrison's operations in the United States and Canada, where it builds under the name Monarch.
