Tweaking the way you dress can help you to look as much as 20 pounds lighter. To help you reclaim your closet, we asked Tom Julian, author of Nordstrom Guide to Men's Style, for some secrets to dressing well, no matter how much you weigh.

Don't Supersize Yourself

Don't grab XLs just because you think they might hide your weight. Extra fabric can make you seem larger than you really are. Stay away from cargo pants that have a lot of pockets.

Think V

If you have a thick neck, consider wearing V-neck shirts and sweaters paired with button-downs that have sharp collars, it'll give the illusion of a slimmer neckline.

Embrace Patterns

Think graphic and linear designs like vertical stripes and small plaid checks. Avoid lighter colors as well as bold patterns and floral designs--both add bulk to your frame.
