Wipe out winter woes USA, LLC

Ever notice when one child gets sick, the whole house does? According to a University of Arizona study, it happens this easily: A child at school touches an infected surface, touches his eyes, nose or mouth, then carries the flu virus home and spreads it to nearly 60 percent of household surfaces. Before long, your home is a hotbed of germs, and you're spending the winter rescheduling plans, making up sick days at work and cooking chicken soup for your loved ones. You can chalk it up to the season, but wouldn't you rather reduce the risk? Prevention can help break the vicious germ transfer cycle. At home, get in the habit of disinfecting frequently touched surfaces. Pay special attention to phone receivers--80 percent of which tested positive for the Influenza A virus in the study, followed by doorknobs, light switches and remote controls. Clorox[R] Disinfecting Wipes are easy to use and can kill 99.9 percent of the germs that cause colds and flu. Teaching children to wash their hands for at least 20 seconds in warm soapy water before eating and after school will also keep germs from spreading.

* Flu is responsible for 22 million missed school days each year.

* Flu causes illness in approximately five to 20 percent of Americans annually, resulting in an average of 200,000 hospitalizations.

* Some viruses can live more than two hours on surfaces like doorknobs and desks.

* Adults can spread the flu virus up to a day before developing symptoms and three to seven days after symptoms start. Children can pass the virus on to others even longer.
